Welcome to EDI
| The staff of E.D.I. consists of a Medical X-Ray Technologist, Registered Dental Assistants-Level II, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologists, Digital Imaging Specialists and Dental Office Administrators who are dedicated to providing consistent, high quality records to our referring practitioners.
Your referring Dr. wants the best for you! It is for this reason he or she has referred you to our office. EDI has imaging equipment specialized in revealing hidden anatomy of the jaws, teeth, jaw joints, sinuses and surrounding areas. The i-CAT CBCT Scanner is our most powerful imaging technology, which combines x-ray technology with advanced computer acquisition to uncover the nature of pathology. The major benefit of the i-CAT is its ability to show internal anatomy in extremely detailed cross-sections commonly referred to as slices, with minimal exposure to you, the patient. The slices are very thin millimeter sections capable of revealing tiny abnormalities. Every CBCT scan produced at EDI is reviewed by an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist, in order to alleviate any chance of an abnormality or pathology going undetected. Our Radiologists specialize exclusively in reading images dedicated to head and neck anatomy. |

Once you have been referred to EDI, your referring Dr.’s office can book the appointment for you, or you can book the appointment yourself by calling our main office phone number 780-483-1338. We try very hard to accommodate our patients within a one to two week time frame. Depending on the procedure being ordered, we can sometimes arrange to see the patient the same day.
Our regular office hours are:
Mon-Thurs 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
Fridays 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Closed weekends and statutory holidays
How long will my appointment take?
Your referring Dr. will provide EDI with a referral slip outlining the services required which will help us determine the length of your appointment and the applicable fees. A typical TMJ scan can be done in minutes whereas full orthodontic records can take up to an hour.

How much will it cost?
As we offer a variety of services, we will need to know what your Dr. has ordered on you. Once that has been determined, one of our staff will be happy to review the cost with you.
Please note that all applicable fees are due in full at the time of your appointment. We accept Debit, Cash, American Express, Visa and Mastercard. We do not accept cheques.
Will you direct bill my dental insurance company?
EDI is considered a specialty office, therefore we do not direct bill the insurance company.
Will you do a preauthorization with my insurance company so I know what I will get back?
Absolutely. Be certain to provide us with the following information in order to make this process as efficient as possible.
- Name of insurance company
- Name of policy holder
- Date of birth of policy holder
- Policy holder’s employer
- Group number
- ID number
Without this information, without contacting the insurance company first and with the vast number of dental plans available, it is impossible for our staff to know exactly how much each plan will cover.
Can you submit my insurance electronically?
Yes, we have purchased specific software that in most cases will allow us to do this. It is important to us that you be reimbursed in the most timely manner possible.
What to expect at your Visit
Depending on the services required, your visit may only take a few minutes or a little over 1 hour. Once you check in with reception and complete the appropriate paperwork, one of our highly trained Diagnostic Imaging Specialists will come and escort you into the treatment area. If diagnostic digital photos are required, you will be lead into our in-office photo studio. If your visit requires an i-CAT CBCT scan, a panoramic x-ray, lateral ceph x-ray, or any of the other radiographic images we perform, you will be shown into the appropriate room and instructed accordingly. For those of you who require dental impressions, we ask that your teeth be clean and flossed to avoid any distortion in the impression material, and afterwards you are welcome to freshen up at our patient comfort station.
Helpful Tips for your Visit
- We recommend that you arrive a few minutes prior to your appointment in order to fill out the appropriate paper work.
- Make sure to bring your dental insurance information so that we may assist you in submitting your claim.
- We strongly suggest that all metal that is not medically required be removed from the neck up prior to your arrival. This includes all facial piercings, hair clips, bobby pins, jewelry, removable retainers, etc. It is also imperative that hair extensions must not be worn. You will be asked to remove these items, as Radiation does not penetrate through them and may interfere with your x-rays. It is possible therefore that an underlying pathology can be missed if we cannot see what is behind these objects. Metal items can also show up as a streak across the image. We do not want to risk your referring Dr. having to send you back for a “retake” of the image.
- Wear something comfortable, but try to avoid sweaters that zip up to the neck. Again, this will need to be removed.
- For Orthodontic Records, your appointment will consist of photographs of your face and teeth, a couple of x-rays and dental impressions of your teeth. For your photos we need to see your cheekbones, therefore we will ask you to move your hair off to the sides of your face. This will allow your orthodontist to assess the symmetry of your facial structures. We will ask you to smile – it is important that we see your teeth, but we need to have a very “natural” smile. Following your dental impressions, you are more than welcome to use our patient comfort station including warm towels, toothbrushes, floss and drinking water to freshen up!
- Please make sure to inform your tech if you could possibly be pregnant, or have an allergy to latex.
How does a CBCT scan compare to a traditional medical CT scan in regards to radiation/exposure?
CBCT technology provides all the benefits of 3-dimensional imaging with the patient exposed to significantly less radiation than a medical CT scan.
