Implant Imaging

Radiographic Services Many practitioners who are performing implant surgery have expressed an interest in referring their patients to EDI for an i-CAT Cone Beam 3-D scan. (CBCT)

The i-CAT’s high resolution, volumetric images provide complete three-dimensional views of critical anatomy for a more thorough analysis of bone structure and tooth orientation to optimize implant treatment and placement, thereby allowing selection of the most suitable implant type, size, location and angulations prior to surgery.

How does CBCT represent a major improvement over conventional 2-dimensional dental radiography?

It is very difficult for two-dimensional intra-oral and extra-oral images to precisely replicate the anatomy captured on their receptors. Two-dimensional images inherently exhibit magnification, distortion, and overlap of anatomy. Therefore, measuring or determining anatomical relationships is not accurate. Cone Beam Computer Tomography (more correctly Cone Beam 3-D) captures a volume of data and through a reconstruction process delivers images that do not contain magnification, distortion, or overlap of anatomy. Measurements and anatomical relationships are therefore precise and provide practitioners clear insight into patient hard tissue relationships.

I want to begin offering implants in my practice but I don’t have implant planning software. How Can EDI help me get started with guided surgery without the huge investment?

At EDI we understand how costly those implant planning software programs can be. Not only the initial cost, but the training time and the time it takes to convert the data/upload it into the program only adds to the confusion. EDI works closely with several 3rd party conversion services and can easily provide you with everything you need to plan your guided implant surgery from start to finish! From the scanning appliance to the surgical guide, let us show you how easy it can be to get started. For more information contact Jennifer Gray.

Digitization is achieved through 3D radiographic images acquired through a CBCT Scan that are stored in DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) format. This information can then be loaded into your 3D Implant planning software for case presentations and treatment planning.
  • EDI follows strict imaging protocols to coincide with each of the software programs used by our referring doctors. Check out the Reference section below for more information of these protocols.

All CBCT scans referred to EDI for implants are reviewed by our Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist, Dr. Ernest Lam, B.Sc.(Hons.), D.M.D., M.Sc., Ph.D., Cert. O.M.R., F.R.C.D.(C) and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. The combination of excellent quality radiographs and diagnostic reporting provided by EDI presents dentists with a firm base on which to deliver diagnostic expertise, and precise treatment planning to their patients. Reports include all measurements and recommendations.
