CBCT

EDI provides a range of diagnostic imaging and reporting services to support treatment planning across multiple dental specialties. CBCT examinations can be performed for implant planning, oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) assessment, impacted teeth, airway evaluation, pathology investigation, and other clinical indications as requested by the referring practitioner. Additional services include radiologist reporting, orthodontic records, digital intraoral scanning with STL file generation, cephalometric analysis, and interpretation of imaging acquired outside our facility. Our goal is to provide referring clinicians with the diagnostic information they need in a timely and accessible format, allowing them to focus on patient care while benefiting from dedicated imaging and reporting services. We are also able to rush a report.

Outside Radiology Reporting

Edmonton Diagnostic Imaging provides comprehensive reporting services for dental practices across Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, giving you direct access to experienced oral and maxillofacial radiologists. Simply submit your CBCT scan for a detailed diagnostic report, including pathology screening, implant planning and measurements, impacted teeth, TMJ assessment, airway analysis, and other findings that support confident diagnosis and treatment planning. We also provide interpretation of 2D imaging, including panoramic radiographs, to identify pathology or incidental findings that may warrant further investigation. Whether you’re seeking a second opinion, require specialist reporting before surgery or implant treatment, or simply want the reassurance of a comprehensive radiology assessment, Edmonton Diagnostic Imaging delivers timely, accurate reports that help you provide the highest standard of care for your patients—no matter where your practice is located.

Digital Intraoral Scanning

EDI offers digital intraoral scanning using the iTero® intraoral scanner, providing accurate, comfortable, and efficient digital impressions without the need for traditional impression materials. EDI offers digital intraoral scanning using the iTero® intraoral scanner for orthodontic records, digital treatment planning, and the generation of STL files for guided implant surgery. Scan files can be seamlessly shared with the referring clinician and forwarded directly to their preferred dental laboratory, supporting an efficient and fully digital workflow.

Implant Planning & Measurements

EDI uses Planmeca 3D imaging to provide the diagnostic information needed for implant treatment planning. Referring clinicians may request a radiologist pathology screening of the proposed implant site prior to treatment to help identify findings that may influence surgical planning. We also offer implant planning services that include mandibular nerve tracing and site-specific measurements to assist with implant selection and positioning. For implant-retained dentures, radiographic denture bead markers can be incorporated into the imaging process to support prosthetically driven treatment planning. Imaging data and digital files can be provided directly to the referring clinician and transferred to the dental laboratory of their choice for a smooth and efficient digital workflow.

Orthodontic Records

Our comprehensive orthodontic records package is designed to provide clinicians with the diagnostic information needed for efficient treatment planning. Records include a full CBCT scan, which can be readily shared with oral surgeons and other specialists when surgical consultation or treatment is required, as well as an iTero® intraoral scan with STL files and digital models. High-resolution digital photography is included to support diagnosis, case presentation, and treatment planning. When requested, we can also generate a cephalometric radiograph from the CBCT dataset and provide a customized cephalometric analysis tailored to the referring doctor’s preferences and clinical requirements. Turn around time is 5-7 business days.

Pathological Investigation

Unexpected findings can sometimes appear on routine dental imaging. If you identify an area of concern, our team can provide a comprehensive interpretation by an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist or arrange a dedicated CBCT examination for your patient. Advanced 3D imaging allows for a detailed assessment of underlying pathology that may not yet be causing symptoms, helping to detect conditions that might otherwise go unnoticed. Each examination is accompanied by a thorough radiology report, including diagnostic findings and recommendations for appropriate next steps, ensuring you have the information needed to make informed treatment and referral decisions.

TMJ

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders can be complex and often require 3D imaging to support diagnosis and treatment planning. At Edmonton Diagnostic Imaging, we provide CBCT imaging of the TMJs with comprehensive interpretation by an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist. A CBCT can help to identify degenerative joint disease, condylar abnormalities, asymmetry, trauma, developmental variations, and other osseous changes that may be contributing to a patient’s symptoms. When previous CBCT examinations are available, they can be compared to assess changes over time, helping to monitor disease progression, treatment outcomes, or the stability of existing findings. Open-mouth TMJ imaging can also be performed in addition to the standard closed-mouth scan, allowing comparison of condylar position and joint function between the two positions. This additional information can assist in the assessment of joint mechanics and mandibular movement.

Impaction/Nerve Tracing

CBCT imaging provides a three-dimensional view of impacted teeth, allowing for a more accurate assessment than conventional two-dimensional radiographs. It is particularly valuable for evaluating impacted third molars, as it clearly demonstrates the relationship between the tooth roots and the inferior alveolar nerve, helping clinicians assess surgical complexity and potential risk prior to extraction. Nerve tracing can be performed to further define the course of the mandibular canal and assist with treatment planning. CBCT is also an important tool for assessing impacted or unerupted teeth before orthodontic treatment, providing detailed information about tooth position, angulation, adjacent root relationships, and surrounding anatomy.

Sinus/Airway

CBCT imaging can assist in identifying sinus-related findings such as mucosal thickening, sinus opacification, anatomical variations, ostium obstruction, and other changes that may contribute to patient symptoms. Airway imaging can also provide valuable information regarding airway dimensions, skeletal anatomy, and potential areas of narrowing that may be relevant for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment, orthognathic surgery, or evaluation of sleep-related breathing concerns. Each examination is interpreted by an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist, with a comprehensive report outlining relevant findings and recommendations to assist clinicians in determining appropriate next steps for patient care.

Endo

3D CBCT imaging for endodontic cases can be utilized when additional diagnostic information is needed beyond conventional 2D radiographs. A 3D view provides a more detailed assessment of root and canal anatomy, periapical findings, resorption, suspected fractures, and other areas of concern that may be difficult to evaluate on a 2D image. This additional information can be particularly valuable when assessing a previously treated tooth, helping the dentist determine whether endodontic re-treatment may be appropriate or whether another treatment approach should be considered. Our Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology team can assist referring dentists with challenging cases through detailed imaging and radiology interpretation to support diagnosis and treatment planning. If you have a case that needs same-day imaging or radiology support, our team is here to help get your patient assessed promptly.
